Bear is a cavoodle. His colour is called Ruby. He is fluffy and very soft.
Bear is 2 years old.
Bear loves food and chasing after his toys. Especially squeaky ones! He also likes sleeping under trees in the shade. He doesn't like hot days.
Sarah Carew has undergone training with Bear to be certified as a handler and therapy dog team. Because of this, we are now able to offer Occupational Therapy with the use of a therapy dog.
Bear completed a five-day intensive course through Therapy Dogs Australia certifying him as a therapy dog for individual sessions with clients. As part of this training Bear participated in high-level obedience and good behaviour making him suitable for private OT sessions.
When performing sessions with Bear, Sarah will continue to work towards key areas of daily living; for example, sensory regulation, gross motor, fine motor, social and communication, etc., however, Bear will add another unique dimension to the session.
Over the years, research has been continuing to increase regarding the positive impact animals have with people. As animals are non-judgemental, and provide an unconditional love they not only assist in increasing the engagement between therapist and client, but can also assist as an intrinsic motivator.
Communication between animals (particularly dogs) and children with social difficulties is easier than communication with other people. Animals also have the unique ability to provide immediate feedback regarding a person’s mood, behaviour and method of communication.
